ABOUT NATURE ENERGY
Nature Energy is a market leader when it comes to converting millions (yes, you read that right — millions) of tons of biomass into green, CO2-neutral gas, as quickly and effectively as possible.
What is Biomass?
Biomass consists of all things organic that can be taken from a used state and turned into a usable state. This organic waste can include processed and non-processed food, livestock waste (manure), and more. Biomass is collected from businesses, agricultural centers, and households, and then transported to our biogas plants. The next stage happens as the biomass is converted into neutral biogas and liquid fertilizer (also known as digestate).
This conversion happens inside processing tanks (digesters) that are located at our biogas plants. Inside the digesters, temperatures reach approximately 50 degrees Celsius (around 122 degrees Fahrenheit) and that level of heat, combined with bacteria, converts these biomasses into usable biogas and fertilizer.
How we help the environment
The resulting biogas is processed in an upgrading unit to get rid of the toxic hydrogen sulfide before being entered into the regional natural gas grid. We also return the fertilizer to agricultural centers to be used as manure and provide nutrients back to the land. This is a high-level, but impressive, example of the circular economy at its best.
Our impact on the local community
At Nature Energy, being socially aware is as important as being environmentally aware. With this in mind, we take positive steps in minimizing any unpleasant side effects on the communities that surround our biogas plants. Noise and smell are kept to a minimum using modern equipment and environmentally friendly vehicles. We offer tours of our plants and even offer an SMS texting service to keep you notified of any potential odor issues.
How we became Nature Energy
Nature Energy’s history began in 1979, but our name and nature of work were different back then. We were known as Naturgas Fyn, and our creation came about when Denmark experienced two international oil crises during the 1970s. It was for this reason, among others, that the Danish Parliament adopted an act that would introduce natural gas into Denmark in 1979. Naturgas Fyn was one of five companies that would begin to build the natural gas network that we currently have in Denmark.
Since those early years, we have undergone quite a transformation. From establishing our first biogas plant in 2015, we have now established over a dozen plants, with more to follow. From having 30 employees, we now have over 500 employees, all of whom are dedicated to the work of producing climate-friendly biogas. From being a regional concern to becoming one of the world’s largest producers of biogas.
Nature Energy is on a mission and we want you to come and be a part of it.
What’s next for Nature Energy?
We’re already making a substantial difference in the global Green transition, but our ambitions are just as big and just as global!
This is why Nature Energy is investing extensively in research, which includes our laboratory located at our head office in Odense. The research laboratory was established so we could work toward being able to understand and refine the technology needed to allow us to extract more energy from biomass and produce a better grade of fertilizer for agriculture. At the same time, our laboratory is conducting research into discovering new biomasses for future use in the production of green, CO2-neutral energy.
